Abstract

Anti-Gone

From a psychoanalytic perspective, the article explores the relation between precariousness and mourning – or rather, the inability to mourn, which Sigmund Freud described as melancholia. Referring to Judith Butler and Melanie Klein, it focuses on the question of how the unlamentable loss – the lost paradise – is re-performed in science fiction narratives. Our relationship with what is lost, the text argues, is based on half-knowledge, which projects the interminable past psychotically into the future, thus trying to remain connected to what is gone.
